We are excited to announce our 3rd annual BMVT “Spare Your Mind” Doubles Fundraising Bowling Tournament this year that will be geared towards using exercise as a way to battle against the mental health issues we all see each and every day. Bowling has always been the one sport that our family uses as an outlet to not only strengthen our bond together, but gives us a place that helps to balance our own mental health struggles through competitive fun and exercise. We want to share that same experience with the city of Nashville and beyond, fill up the bowling lanes with mental health advocates, supporters, and community from all over town, and provide a great experience for those involved.

Some may not know, but the month of May is recognized as “Mental Health Awareness Month”. As a brand, we knew that we wanted to find a creative way to really amp up our efforts behind the conversation of mental health during the month of May. Thus, the idea of doing an annual bowling tournament came about. What BMVT is looking to do, like last year, is host a fundraising tournament where a portion of the proceeds go to a mental health organization in Nashville of our choosing. Each year, we will continue this and select a different organization to donate to, as our way of helping continue the conversations surrounding mental health.

The organization we have decided to donate a portion of the proceeds to for this years event is: The Nashville Peacemakers 🫶🏽 (a 501c3 non-profit organization)

The Nashville Peacemakers Back Story

In 2003, North Nashville resident Clemmie Greenlee founded Nashville Peacemakers after losing her only son Rodriguez in a gang-related shooting. She herself had only recently been rescued from a world of drugs, violence, and prostitution by the Magdalene recovery program (supported by Charlotte Avenue-based Thistle Farms). It all began with her enslavement by sex traffickers at age 12.

Nashville Peacemakers was established as a 501(c)3 nonprofit that initially focused on HIV prevention and education, and advocating for Nashville's homeless, but quickly shifted to a street-based mission of curtailing violence in the community, particularly among young black men.

BMVT's Statement

We are dedicating year 3 of our tournament to Clemmie Greenlee & The Nashville Peacemakers simply because we as a brand being Black Men Vent Too, truly have not only a relationship, but a genuine respect for Ms. Clemmie. This young lady has tirelessly worked day in and day out, to advocate for black men and women who’ve lost their sons to gun violence. We have witnessed her in the state buildings, as well as in the streets, advocating for what’s right and we know that she is more than deserving of the donation(s) for this year's event. We ask that you support us in this endeavor, and be ready for a day full of fun, community engagement, networking, and good old fashioned bowling!

We will have community vendors (5), giving out free haircuts to kids, Nashville celebrity guests will be there, and so much more! Even if you aren't bowling, we ask that you come support and be a part of what we're doing to honor Mental Health Awareness Month!
