When AIM was founded in 1987, one heartbreaking reality stood out: many women in Alabama’s prisons never saw their children. Not because they didn’t want to—but because guardians often couldn’t or wouldn’t bring children to visit. AIM was born to change that.

For nearly four decades, AIM has kept mothers and children connected through our monthly visitation program. Caregivers tell us that children smile brighter, sleep better, and do better in school when they get to see their moms. What started with visits has grown into a network of programs that strengthen families year-round:

Monthly Storybook Program – mothers record themselves reading a book, and the recording and book are mailed to their children.
School Support & Gifts – AIM provides school supplies, birthday gifts, and Christmas gifts for AIM kids.
Parenting & Life Skills Classes – mothers gain tools to parent from behind bars and prepare for reentry.
Transitional Housing – at our GENESIS House in Montgomery, women leaving prison find safety, stability, and support as they rebuild their lives.

Today, AIM serves mothers at Tutwiler Prison, Tutwiler Annex, Birmingham Work Release, and Montgomery Women’s Facility, as well as women reentering the community. With Alabama’s prisons holding over 24,000 people—and more than 2,200 of them women—the need is greater than ever.

Many of the women we serve have faced unimaginable challenges, yet with the right support they are rewriting their stories. AIM provides hope, dignity, and second chances—not just for mothers, but for their children and families.

This year’s 38th Annual Fundraiser Luncheon begins a three-year journey of building change:

2025 – Laying the Foundation
2026 – Building the Walls
2027 – Topping It Off
