Hurricane Helene Aid for North Carolina

Wilmington Response is a volunteer-based organization actively helping North Carolina mountain communities rebuild from the severe flooding and landslides caused by Hurricane Helene. Many people had to flee their homes, some returned to communities reduced to rubble or mired in toxic mud. Our primary objective is to ensure every volunteer, every agency, and every church has the supplies needed to support their community and have the strength to rebuild after this massive disaster.

COMMUNITY IN ACTION
So far, Wilmington Response has:

Been actively engaged on the ground with three major deployments.
Established mobile medical centers, providing thousands of dollars in medical supplies to those in need.
Collaborated with drone teams, search & recovery, K9 units, local citizens, volunteers, organizations, corporations, military, law enforcement agencies, emergency management, fire departments, rescue squads, charities, churches, and civic groups.
We have connected eastern and western North Carolina by gathering supplies in two warehouses (one in Wilmington, NC, as well as one in Sylva, NC) we are actively distributing these supplies to affected areas.

In partnership with our network of volunteers and organizations, we are committed to ensuring that aid is delivered directly, quickly, and effectively to those in greatest need. This collaboration enables us to combine resources, expertise, and manpower, maximizing the impact of every dollar donated.

What are we doing now?

With winter setting in, our grounds team is diligently working on providing large fireproof structures on platforms, equipped with wood stoves, cots, bedding, and necessities to ensure warmth and survival for everyone in need. They are also working hard to repair bridges, assist in recovery, deliver propane and fuel, and setting folks up for success by teaching them how to use their donated equipment efficiently (campers, wood stoves, etc.)

At home in our Wilmington warehouse, the team has been working every day to sort, box, and coordinate supplies that get delivered all over WNC. They’ve been busy little elves recently by organizing a Christmas Drive where we have partnered with several smaller teams to provide a magical Christmas to families all the way up through the mountains! Although this holiday season is much different from those of the past, it’s important for us to inspire hope by showing them through our actions that they have not and will not be forgotten.
