JJoy Foundation is excited to partner with Himalayan Guge Organization (HGO), a non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in Nepal in 2013. HGO’s projects are wholly non-profit and are non-political. HGO’s primary purpose is to foster and promote Health (through the Science of Healing, Sowa-Rigpa or Sorig), Education, Culture and Community in the Himalayan region of Nepal. Your donation will help empower the population to make their world a better place.

Our Current Campaign

In 2025, JJoy and HGO partnered together to open the first permanent Sowa Rigpa Clinic in the village of Tsonup, Upper Mustang. In 2026, we are expanding and opening our second clinic in Tsarang. Your donations help to make these ambitious projects possible, bringing healthcare to those who need it most.

The villages of Upper Mustang is not just among the most remote, inhabited, locations in Nepal, but also of the world. These villages lack basic infrastructure and quality health services due to their remote location, making it necessary for people to walk hours to receive basic medical care or to drive to distant cities for specialized treatments. Additionally, in the cold winter months the few services that are available locally close down – leaving residents with no support.

At our clinics in Tsonup and Tsarang, medical treatment from qualified doctors is offered in order to meet the immediate needs of the villagers who attend. Counseling is also available and is focused on educating patients on lifestyle changes which will improve their own general well-being. In addition, doctors visit remote villages on a regular schedule to serve those who are too old or sick to travel to the clinic. By following patients over time, we are able to provide effective follow up and long-term care. Our clinics are open for the entire year, including the months of November to April, and have a qualified doctor on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

There is a saying that “Health is wealth.” We are excited to witness the long term impact that bringing healthcare to Upper Mustang will have on residents of the region.

About HGO:

In terms of Health, HGO strives to:

Preserve and promote the rich tradition of Sowa-Rigpa (Science of Healing);
Support the Sorig medical system and protect people’s health by ensuring standard medical care through offering training, workshops and organizing medical camps in remote parts of the Himalayan region;
Create a medical school specializing in Sowa-Rigpa, including a research center affiliated with the University of Nepal in Kathmandu.

In terms of Education, HGO is committed to:

Expanding awareness of the richness of the traditions within the community by developing programs to involve and empower the youth of the community;
Providing financial support for higher educational needs via scholarships for the youth within the community (initial efforts will focus on a particular village).

With regards to Culture and Community, HGO will actively work to:

Preserve the rich culture of the Himalayan region;
Promote and encourage the unity and harmony within the community;
Develop community livestock programs and work on eliminating poverty in selected rural areas.

And further, with the help of international volunteers:

Assist the elderly, the young and people in need within the region;
Build and/or repair monasteries, nunneries and schools within the region;
Create and foster international cultural exchange while inspiring generations to help others.

HGO is officially registered under the Society Act with the District Administration Office of Kathmandu (Regd. No: 168/070/5/20) and is also affiliated with the Social Welfare Council Nepal (SWC No: 37917/070/5/27) and PAN No: 601378902.

About JJoy Foundation

JJoy Foundation works to develop relationships with established NGOs doing amazing working in their own communities within our focus areas of shelter, education and health. We create relationships which uphold the autonomy of our local partners, who define the needs and approach of each project. We increase the visibility and reach of these partners by raising awareness and funds within the US in support of their projects. We also, from time to time, facilitate volunteer teams who participate directly in this work. JJoy Foundation is working in partnership with HGO, a minimum of 95% of your donation toward this campaign will be sent directly to HGO.
