This project supports the transportation of a sea container filled with high-quality used fishing nets from the Pacific coast to Ukraine. While we usually ship containers of field gear from Colorado, we are now pivoting to a specialized mission: repurposing massive industrial waste into life-saving protection.

The Importance of Fishing Nets for Road Safety

In Ukraine, frontline logistics depend on clear and safe roadways. We are utilizing the used fishing nets to construct drone protection road safety tunnels. By creating overhead and side-shielding, these tunnels significantly reduce accessibility of vehicles to FPV drone strikes. These nets provide a critical layer of defense for evacuations and the delivery in high-risk zones.

High-Quality Material Repurposed from the Waste Stream

These are not standard consumer-grade nets. They come from commercial fishing operations, meaning they are manufactured to withstand extreme oceanic tension and weather conditions. Through a collaboration with a net waste processing nonprofit in Canada, we are taking this high-quality material directly out of the waste stream and repurposing them for a new life-saving mission. These nets are massive, with individual sections weighing between 3 and 5 tons, providing a level of durability that is impossible to find elsewhere.

Efficiency and Scale

One single container carries 15 tons of nettings, which is approximately 30,000 square meters. To put that into perspective, it is enough material to cover the area of 5 football fields. This volume of netting is equivalent to protecting 750 pickup trucks from all sides, or shielding a 6-kilometer stretch of roadway between two frontline villages from the top. Alternatively, it can be used to fully enclose 3 kilometer of road from both the top and sides.

The Cost of Impact

The nets themselves are provided to us free of charge thanks to our nonprofit partners. However, moving material of this weight and scale requires significant resources. Your donations go directly toward the international container shipment costs to get them into Ukraine, as well as training and labor of cutting and processing these 3-ton nets into manageable size
