Noodle can stand upright for the first time in his life.

Noodle came to us in May after being found as a stray in Sutter County. The shelter had labeled him rescue-only because of his complex medical needs. He had severe deformities in both knees and ankles that caused his legs to twist out of alignment. He crawled around like a little crab just to get around.

After an extensive evaluation at UC Davis, including a CT scan and 3D models of his bones, his surgical team developed a plan to correct his leg. Because Noodle is so young and wasn’t in pain, we were able to wait for him to grow and for his growth plates to mature before putting him through major surgery.

Yesterday, he finally had that surgery. We picked him up this morning after he spent the night at UC Davis, and watching him walk on those legs for the first time was incredible.

His surgery alone cost $8,908.03, and with his consultation, imaging, follow-ups, and other care, we expect Noodle’s total medical expenses to reach about $10,000.

That’s a huge bill for our small rescue but it was an easy choice to make, but Noodle deserves every dollar of it. He deserves the chance to run, play, explore, and have a life where he doesn’t have to crawl just to get around.
