Nearly 30% of seniors and those with disabilities live alone in the U.S. With a little help from volunteer caregivers, like those found at the National Volunteer Caregiving Network, our goal is to help people age in place!
In 1984, the seeds were planted for a national movement to support America’s underserved aging and disabled populations. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) began by funding 25 pilot volunteer caregiving programs to serve seniors and adults with disabilities, with the goal of improving their lives and helping them live independently at their home for as long as possible.
Now, forty years later, the National Volunteer Caregiving Network (NVCN) connects those in need to a network of nearly 1,000 local organizations across the country that provide volunteer caregiving services. NVCN is a non-profit organization that inherited the work of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and whose mission is to allow the volunteer caregiving movement to live on for future generations.
On this Giving Tuesday, you, too, can make a meaningful impact to neighbors in your community.
Local volunteer caregiving programs provide volunteer services to those most in need - an estimate of more than 500,000 seniors and people with disabilities are served by over 350,000 volunteers across the country. Volunteers and donations make caregiving work possible.
This Giving Tuesday NVCN has set a donation goal of $40,440 for critical operating support for their members and local organizations. Every donation will help NVCN build national awareness of the volunteer caregiving mission and provide local member organizations valuable tools and support for sustainable programs, best practices and streamlined operations.
As you make your gift today, please consider earmarking your contribution to your local organization. A pull-down list will present the members of NVCN that are participating in this campaign. The GiveButter fees will be automatically deducted from the donation and the remainder will be shared with the local organization of your choice. Our Volunteer Caregiving communities across the country thank you for your support!
