With one of the highest injury rates in female sports, gymnastics poses serious risks to a gymnast’s well-being. Despite this and the sport’s growing popularity, gymnastics injury prevention and care has previously not been a prevalent medical study area.

Aiming to remedy this issue, Dr. Elspeth “Elly” Hart and her team at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center embarked on a journey to build a first-of-its-kind gymnastics medicine clinic.

The clinic was born out of necessity and is entirely devoted to gymnastics-related injuries. They currently treat and address injured gymnasts’ needs to continue competing and performing at their highest level.

Dr. Hart now looks to expand on her mission to bring evidence-based care and prevention to all hard-working gymnasts. With this goal in mind, Gymnastics Medicine, a non-profit and 501c3, was born to provide additional education and much-needed research around gymnastics-based injuries and provide solutions to forge the gymnastics industry forward. While Gymnastics Medicine does not treat patients directly, their team of professionals offers critical information for diagnosed and injured gymnasts to better understand their afflictions and how to prevent them in the future.

Gymnastics Medicine hopes to bring a better understanding of the injuries surrounding one of the most beloved sports internationally and offer athletes the tips and tools they need to deter recurrence and promote proper recoveries.
