Our Work

LEAP’s primary programming is a radically accessible 4-day-a-week, half day preschool in Durham NC. Our school, known to families as Nuestra Escuelita, provides a dual language, project based curriculum that centers outdoor exploration and play. We offer sliding-scale tuition, with Medicaid-eligible families paying as little as $75 per month. Because we know that accessibility is more complex than just cost, at LEAP we provide wrap-around support for our families including transportation, a small food pantry with fresh food offerings every week, dental and vision screenings to support families who struggle to access health care, on-site speech and occupational therapies for students who qualify for services, a fully bilingual staff and 100% of communication provided bilingually in Spanish and English.

Our educators are an essential part of what makes our work possible. We prioritize hiring staff who reflect our students and community, and support their growth through on-the-job training, mentorship, and pathways to credentials. This year, 6 preschool teachers either completed or made progress toward their Early Childhood Education credentials

Additionally, we offer free literacy tutoring for students in grades K-7 that uses targeted, evidence based literacy interventions to meet students' individual learning needs. We also offer summer learning opportunities for both PreK and Elementary aged students, at radically accessible costs.
