Our Founder’s Story

NALTCV was born out of a personal mission. More than 30 years ago, Dr. Paul Falkowski began visiting nursing homes with his saxophone, offering music and companionship. He saw how just one hour of presence could light up someone’s life.

"I saw how one hour of presence could light up someone’s life. That’s why we built NALTCV — so no one in long-term care feels forgotten."

Over the years, Paul built volunteer programs, trained hundreds of people, and conducted research showing how volunteer visits improve quality of life — and even the quality of care — in nursing homes. That passion grew into NALTCV, a national movement to ensure every person in long-term care has someone who shows up, listens, and makes them feel seen.

Why We Need You

Volunteers and long-term care communities make a small subscription to show commitment — a little “skin in the game.” But subscriptions alone don’t cover the real cost of developing and delivering high-quality training and resources nationwide.
