Stella is a young, joyful, gentle black-and-white standard poodle with a heart far bigger than her body. Through no fault of her own, Stella’s life was turned upside down when she was dropped off at ACCT and timestamped simply because she has periodic seizures.

When Familiar Hearts stepped in, we quickly learned who Stella really is: a pup who steals the hearts of everyone she meets. Because of her sweet, trusting nature, she was adopted almost immediately as a special-needs dog. We truly believed she had found her happily ever after.

But nine months later, Stella came back to us—confused, scared, and once again in need of help.

Recently, Stella suffered a devastating bout of cluster seizures that required emergency hospitalization. Her hospital stay lasted several nights so the veterinary team could finally break the seizure cluster and titer her to therapeutic levels on new medications. The switch to different medications is in hopes of better control—but the truth is, we don’t yet know what comes next for Stella. There are no guarantees. Only hope. What we do know is the cost: $3,500 for this unexpected emergency.

Stella did nothing wrong. She didn’t ask for seizures. She didn’t ask to lose her home. She just wants to feel safe, loved, and comfortable in her own body again.
