Meet Otus.

Otus is an English Bulldog and Philosophy’s newest employee. His name even belongs here. Otus is a genus of scops owls, a nod to the owl that has long represented Philo.

But finding Otus was only the beginning.

Before we could move forward, he needed to prove he had the right temperament for therapy work. Otus officially passed his temperament evaluation, and we were told his temperament is perfect for the job!

Now the real work begins.

Help Otus Earn His Vest

Otus will be training with Spirit Ranch Dog Training through Basic Boot Camp, an 18-day Intermediate Boot Camp, Advanced Training, and Therapy Access + Presentation training.

Our fundraising will help cover that professional training, along with the veterinary care, therapy dog insurance, equipment, and other expenses required to get Otus ready for his future at Philosophy.

Why a Therapy Dog?

Philosophy was built around the idea that students do their best when school recognizes that they're people first.

We've seen what happens when animals are around our students. They sit on the floor with them. They laugh. They slow down. A stressful day feels a little less heavy.

Sometimes a student needs academic help. Sometimes they need someone to talk to.

Sometimes they just need a dog.

That's the job we're preparing Otus for.

Our goal is for him to become a familiar, calming presence at Philo. Someone our students can sit beside, decompress with, care for, laugh with, or simply have nearby.
