Sailing is one of Pine Island’s most loved and storied activities. When one thinks of their time at camp, it’s easy to imagine the Bezumarangs bobbing in the cove, or a pair of JYs racing in stiff winds, or the feeling you got when you finally learned how to rig a mainsail. There’s something special and unique about PIC’s sailing program, and it’s one we’re proud to offer.

However, sailing would not be possible without the famous cove boat, our 13-foot Boston Whaler that allows the sailing instructors to ferry campers out to the sailboats and to follow them as they navigate the waters of Great Pond. Our current cove boat is a 1969 Whaler that is ready to enjoy retirement, as is its 20 HP outboard motor. Thanks to a generous donation from the Eklund family, we now have a new cove boat, another 13-foot Boston Whaler currently named Doopster. We’re very excited for 2025 to feature this beautiful watercraft, but it will need an outboard motor to do its job. We plan to purchase a brand new 25 HP outboard for Doopster, which will allow it to serve the boys of Pine Island for years to come.

While our Annual Fund covers expenses like this, we’re offering this microgiving opportunity to alums who would like to support our sailing program directly.
