Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) is preventable, yet it continues to take young lives across the Pacific. In 2026, our team is launching a motivated and expanded effort to reduce the long-term burden of RHD in Micronesia through early screening, timely treatment, community education, and local capacity building.

Our Goal

By 2030, our program will reduce the long-term burden of RHD in Micronesia by screening 100% of the adolescent population, ensuring timely treatment and referral for all suspected cases, and building sustainable local capacity through ongoing education and health-worker training.

Why This Matters

RHD often begins with a simple untreated strep throat infection, but over time, it can cause lifelong heart damage or early death. Screening, antibiotics, and community awareness can stop the disease entirely. Early intervention saves lives, keeps children in school, and protects families and communities.
