Daisy Dream Project addresses multiple concerns that affect the black and brown community. The organization was created to provide resources around family planning, early intervention, and community impact.

Underserved populations exist all over the world. There is clear evidence that concerns occur within different populations for a number of reasons. Dr. Gloria Pope is a problem solver through the research of their dissertation on, “ Parent Involvement in the urban community for children with a diagnosed disability.” The research demonstrated evidence that parents felt resources were limited in their communities. One parent stated, “ I did not know where to go.” (2017). In addition to parents not feeling supported, Dr. Pope has had over 20 years of experience in early childhood education. The combination of both, birthed this organization. A place where the families of young children will be provided with resources and services to support the growth of the families.

The resource center will focus on supporting families with programs for family planning, parenting classes, and a the key focus will be children aged 2 years old to 7 year olds with sensory integration concerns.

The Need:

Resources in underserved communities is a consistent need. For families of children with diagnosed disabilities it is gaining access to resources and support. This included resources for finding services and or even understanding existing developmental concerns with their children.

Family planning is an additional concern in Black & Brown Communities. Research shows that families of people of color are less likely to receive prenatal care. Let alone take into consideration family planning practices.

The focus of fertility and developmental growth of children is what will refocus the community. Daisy Dream is looking for a revolutionary community that provides services and opportunities for families to elevate.

Phase 1: Creating Brighter Futures: Support Our Sensory Gym for Children's Development

However, for many children, particularly those with sensory processing challenges, accessing appropriate environments for learning and growth can be challenging. That's why we are reaching out to you today to support the creation of a sensory gym for children in our community. With your help, we can provide a nurturing space where children can explore, learn, and develop essential skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.

The Cause:

Our cause is simple yet profound: to establish a sensory gym that caters to the unique needs of children, especially those with sensory processing difficulties. This gym will be a safe haven where children can engage in sensory-rich activities that stimulate their senses, promote self-regulation, and enhance their overall well-being. Parents are also in need to support the sensory gym which will provide access to groups and navigation of services.

Research:

Daisy Dream Project is currently collecting data to demonstrate the need for a sensory gym in lower Westchester County, specifically Mount Vernon, NY. The research is based on the parent surveys and data collected from early childhood programs in the zip codes 10550, 10551, 10552, and 10553. The early data focused only on a small sample of 62 children from an early childhood program which we will identify as Childhood 1, provided the following data.

The initial data collection was focused on the perspective of parents of children diagnosed with a developmental delay.

This sensory gym is that start of something that will pivot the whole community. The Daisy Dream Gym will provide the resources need for families to become advocates. The gym will provide programs that support young children with what is next. It will also address to larger concern in the community for children with Autism. This space will be the space where families can come to get the answers they need.

At the Daisy Dream Project, we are committed to creating brighter futures for families and children. While our roots are in Mount Vernon, NY, the impact of our work extends far beyond – touching lives and inspiring communities to support and empower one another.

Our Intensive Parent Coaching Program is making a tangible difference:

A 90-day initiative that bridges the critical gap between home and school.
Tailored support for families with children who have suspected or diagnosed disabilities.
Personalized coaching through home visits, school visits, and continuous guidance.

To ensure this program remains free of charge for income-eligible families, we are working to raise $250,000, allowing us to serve 50 families this year.

In addition, we are expanding our community impact with the Daisy Dream Gym, which houses Mount Vernon’s first sensory-accessible space. To support our 50 Saturdays of free art classes, designed to nurture creativity and connection for children, we are raising an additional $20,000.
