Hi everyone! Welcome to Mia's Cancer Club :)
My name is Mia and in June of 2024 I was diagnosed with Stage IV Adrenocortical Carcinoma. It's a rare form of cancer that typically affects children or adults over the age of forty . . . in other words, usually not young adults. I felt so alone in my diagnosis and so, like most 23 year-olds, I went to social media. I began sharing my story on tik tok in the hopes of connecting with others like me and to help others feel less alone. Through this journey, I have connected with other young adults who are fighting, surviving, and thriving despite a cancer diagnosis. I realized that despite different diagnoses, so many others shared similar feelings of isolation and frustration. It also brought me here, to Cactus Cancer Society, an organization dedicated to providing an accessible and welcoming community for young adults facing cancer to come together and connect.
Being nominated for Cactus Cancer Society's Young Adult Cancer Advocate of the Year award gives me the incredible opportunity to fundraise for an organization that mirrors my values: to help others feel less alone, to raise awareness, to advocate, and to celebrate every cancer win.
If you're able to donate or share my fundraiser, it would mean the world to me and the other young adults that would benefit from Cactus Cancer Society's amazing programs!
Lots of love,
Mia 💛🐝💚
