Why HopeSpace Exists

HopeSpace was founded after deeply personal losses. Patrick Monahan's twin brother died homeless at age 28 with schizophrenia. Another brother died in 2025 after years of illness, incarceration, addiction, and discharge from hospital to homelessness after leg amputation. Co-founders, Bart Brown and Chris Brown, are also passionate about solving housing insecurity.

Our experiences—and more than three decades of volunteering across Marion County—revealed a hard truth: homelessness persists not only because of housing shortages, but because services are fragmented, siloed, and difficult to navigate.

HopeSpace addresses that failure

We coordinate trusted nonprofits into integrated, cost-efficient systems that prevent repeated displacement. Our first initiative is a pioneering extended-stay motel stabilization hub, combining hospitality expertise, service coordination, and outcome-driven accountability.

Our models are designed to become operationally self-sustaining after startup philanthropy, allowing donor dollars to go further and scale impact.
