She’s Ready for the Test—But Not for Her Period

Imagine a 13-year-old girl who’s studied all night for her math test. She’s confident, prepared, and ready to succeed. But that morning, she wakes up with blood-stained underwear and cramps—and no pads, no ibuprofen, no way to manage it.

We’ve been there—or our daughters soon will be. Periods are never convenient. But for girls in rural Uganda, they can be devastating.

Without access to menstrual products, many girls miss school or drop out altogether. They’re forced to manage their periods with old t-shirts, rags, or nothing at all. Sanitation facilities are inadequate, privacy is nonexistent, and the fear of leaks and shame is overwhelming.

This isn’t rare—it’s the reality for nearly every girl in the villages we serve.

The Result? Lost Potential.

In Uganda, just 22.5% of girls enroll in secondary school. A major reason? Menstruation.

Every missed class, every test skipped, every opportunity delayed—adds up. The cost of inaction is a generation of girls denied their right to learn, thrive, and lead.

We partner with 15 schools where women leaders and educators are mentoring girls and breaking the stigma around menstruation. They’re ready to support—but they need our help.
