Every Public Assembly show begins with a prompt.
Artists from our audience take that prompt in wildly different directions, and on the night of the show a conversation begins to emerge—not because anyone planned it, but because dozens of people are wrestling with the same question from different angles.

After nearly eight years, more than 150 original plays, and hundreds of artists, we’ve come to realize that those conversations have become something larger than any single show. Together, they’ve become an ongoing portrait of Los Angeles.

So for this year’s fundraiser, we’re turning the prompt back on ourselves with the question:

What makes a city?

Is it the roads? The buildings? The smog or occasional marine layer? Dodgers traffic or CicLAvia? Farmer's Markets or Randy's Donuts?

To us, it's the people and the stories we share.

Every city needs resources not just to operate, but to thrive. This year we come to you with our most ambitious fundraise yet to secure our community's future and keep building on the horizon.

Last year we raised 53% of our total annual budget from crowdfunding alone, proving that no donation is too small to count.
