Thank you so much for your support!!

Imagine walking into a grocery store when a cart crashes behind you.

Most of us turn, see what happened, and keep shopping.

For a veteran living with PTSD, that sudden sound can trigger something very different. His heart races. His body goes on high alert. He scans the room for danger. A simple trip to the store can suddenly feel overwhelming.

Now imagine that same veteran with a specially trained service dog at his side.

The dog can recognize signs of anxiety before they become overwhelming, interrupt escalating distress, create physical space in a crowded room, wake him from a nightmare, and provide the steady presence that helps him feel safe enough to do things many of us take for granted.

Go to the grocery store. Meet a friend. Attend a family gathering. Sleep through the night. Leave the house with greater confidence.

And there's another life being changed, too.

The dog who becomes that trusted partner begins as a rescue dog in need of a future of its own. Through extensive professional training, veteran and dog become a team—each giving the other something extraordinary.

One veteran. One rescue dog. Two lives changed.

The cost to create this partnership is $22,000, and we've already raised almost $9,000 for a Shelter to Soldier psychiatric dog.

Now we're painting our way a little closer.

Join the Mira Mesa Women's Club and Lemon Grove Forward Club for Paint a Path to Independence. Come paint, sip, laugh, enter our raffles—and help us bring a veteran and his future service dog one step closer together.
