As part of this brand-new citywide competition, artists will make a painting — plein air style — of their favorite Charleston vistas. The public will then vote for their favorites during City Center Dead and our Harvest Art Fair. Winners will receive cash prizes sponsored by the West Virginia Nursery & Landscape Association during an awards ceremony at the FestivFALL Harvest Art Fair on Sunday, Oct. 4.

Registration: $15

Check in: Saturday, Oct. 3 from 10 – 11 AM, Capitol Market

Official Rules:

All eligible participants must be officially registered. Each artist must register separately.
Painting must be completed by the single artist registered (without assistance from anyone else) and entirely on Saturday October 3.
Any of these mediums are appropriate: oil, acrylic, gouache, watercolor, or combination.
Painting must be completed on location, plein air style, within the City of Charleston, preferably in downtown areas.
FestivALL will provide each entrant with a high-visibility vest to wear while painting, as identification and for safety.
All paintings must be completed and turned in by the artist between 5 and 5:30 p.m. on Saturday October 3 at Slack Plaza at City Center.
No FestivALL or Gallery at the Mound staff may receive any cash award, but may participate as a painter.
When painters turn in their completed work, they will affix their art to the display screen and fill out a standardized display card giving the (a) title of painting, (b) artist’s name, (c) medium, (d) size, and (e) selling price
The public will view paintings during City Center Dead from 7 PM on Saturday, Oct. 3 until the close of activities (around 9 PM) and again on Sunday, Oct. 4 at the Harvest Art Fair at the Capitol Market from 12 PM to 1 PM.
Members of the public may cast one vote for their favorite.
Ballots will be tabulated by FestiFALL staff. Awards will be announced at approximately 2 PM at the Capitol Market. First place will receive $150; second place will receive $100; third place will receive $50. Winners need not be present.
At any time between 7 PM Saturday and 2 PM Sunday, paintings may be purchased by a member of the public, paying at the FestivALL table. Paintings may be taken by the purchaser after Sunday’s presentation of awards.
Paintings must be picked up by the artist or purchaser at the Harvest Art Fair by 5 PM on Sunday, Oct. 4. If not picked up by 5 PM, they will be available for pickup at Gallery at the Mound during regular business hours.
