The Pasteur Foundation was created to support one of the world’s most influential scientific institutions: the Institut Pasteur.

Founded in 1887 by Louis Pasteur, the Institut Pasteur was built on a radical idea for its time—that scientific discovery should serve humanity directly. From its earliest work on rabies and infectious disease, the Institute has remained at the forefront of research in immunology, microbiology, emerging and re-emerging diseases, vaccine development, and global health preparedness.

Over the course of its history, scientists affiliated with the Institut Pasteur have been recognized with 10 Nobel Prizes, reflecting a legacy of excellence that has shaped modern medicine and our understanding of life itself.

Today, the Institut Pasteur leads a unique international network spanning more than 25 institutes across five continents, combining fundamental science with real-world impact. Its scientists continue to play a critical role in responding to global health threats—from pandemics to antimicrobial resistance.

The Pasteur Foundation exists to ensure this work continues and accelerates. As the U.S.-based philanthropic partner, the Foundation connects donors to the scientists, ideas, and discoveries shaping the future of global health—supporting research, collaboration, and the training of the next generation of scientific leaders.

Together, this legacy of science in service of humanity continues—driven by curiosity, rigor, and the belief that discovery can change lives.
