Dr. William David Myers, a beloved physician and father, passed away at the age of 74 on January 26, 2026.

Known affectionately as “Dr. David” to his patients, he devoted his life to caring for families throughout central Missouri. He was a trusted presence and a steady listener who made people feel genuinely cared for.

David was born on December 5, 1951, in Kirksville, Missouri, and grew up in Licking and Rolla. He graduated from Rolla High School in 1969. Inspired by the example of his father and uncles, who practiced medicine in the region for decades, he felt called to follow in their footsteps. He began his studies in pre-medicine at Northeast Missouri State University before earning early admission to Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he completed his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.

For nearly 50 years, beginning in 1976, Dr. Myers provided comprehensive, patient-centered care across Rolla and the surrounding communities, including Licking and Houston. Over the course of his career, he cared for tens of thousands of patients and built lifelong relationships with individuals and families who counted on him for consistent, compassionate care.

One of the great joys of his career was starting his practice by delivering more than 2,500 babies, welcoming new life into the world and subsequently caring for those children and their families for decades. Many patients proudly shared that Dr. David had delivered them, and later delivered their children, a testament to the lasting trust and connection he built over a lifetime of practice.

Dr. David was also widely respected for his work in sports medicine, a passion rooted in his own experience as a three-sport athlete at Rolla High School, where he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He was one of the original sideline physicians in Rolla and a founder of Rolla Youth Football, regularly volunteering his time at local athletic events. He began providing free athletic physicals for area students by bringing his staff to schools after hours, and his clinic maintained an open door for student-athletes who needed care or physicals at no cost. He believed strongly that access to care and opportunity should never be limited by circumstance, and he lived that belief quietly and consistently.

Those who knew him remember his warm bedside manner, his humility, his easy sense of humor, and his deep commitment to the family-practice tradition that the Myers family has upheld in the region for more than 75 years. He gave generously of his time and care, often without recognition, humbly making sure patients had what they needed, whether that was medical attention, a warm coat, or a pair of shoes.

Outside of medicine, David cherished time with family and enjoyed travel, golf, art, sports, and the natural beauty of Missouri’s rivers and lakes. He was known for his distinctive rhythm of life, his quick pace on the golf course, and a sense of humor that was unmistakably his own. He was a devoted and deeply loved son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

He is survived by his children, Scott David Myers and his wife Melissa; Dr. Cameron Andrew Myers and his wife Samantha; and Marta Milliken and her husband Kevin; and by his grandchildren Brady David Myers; Finn and Nolan Myers; and Wyatt, Lanie, and Nolan Milliken. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Myers Carney; his sister, Dr. Mary Beth Myers; his brothers, Jamie Myers and his wife Laurie, and Billy Jack Myers and his wife Kara; his nieces and nephews Josh Nelson (Kathy), Rachael Abbick (Matthew), Dr. Mylhan Myers (Rachael), Adalie Threadgill (Matthew), Chloe Wentz (Matthew), and Carly Myers; and his grand-nephew Lachlan Myers and grand-nieces Cambre Threadgill and Charlotte Myers.

David also leaves behind a devoted and professional medical staff at Dr. David Myers Family Practice, including Caiti Barry, NP, who worked alongside him with care, loyalty, and deep respect for their patients and his practice.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. B.J. Myers, and his brother, Bradley Jack Myers.

Dr. David’s passing leaves an irreplaceable absence within his family and the community he served so faithfully. May his legacy of compassion, generosity of spirit, and steadfast care live on through those who loved him and the countless lives he touched– both in the clinic and beyond.

A celebration of life, held as a drop-in visitation, will take place on Saturday, February 7, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Oak Meadow Country Club.
