What is this thing?

Penumbra is where shadow and light meet. During daylight, it stands as a wooden monolith, its skeletal form inviting exploration. As the sun sets, it undergoes a mesmerizing transformation. The central light within the tower becomes a beacon, casting dynamic shadows upon the desert floor, creating a poetic dance of light and dark. Participants can control the height of the light, making it an ever-evolving spectacle that beckons all to engage, climb, sit, and converse. When not under participant control, the light moves of its own accord as if by magic. Light and shadow are imprinted on our DNA. In humanity's earliest days, the place where light met darkness delineated the end of safety and the beginning of the thousand possible dangers for this mammal who was not the fastest, nor the strongest, nor the biggest. Penumbra stands as a testament to the eternal interplay between light and shadow, reminding us of our primal instincts and the enduring mysteries that lie within the depths of our consciousness.

ArtBuilds is a vibrant collective built on the values of inclusivity and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Our mission is twofold: to build expansive participatory art installations and cultivate the creative community behind them. We invite you to stop, smile, and engage.
