People Like Us Screening

Saturday, November 18th, 5:30 PM MST

Join us for a screening of "People Like Us," a short film that explores queer identity in mountain towns and snow sports, followed by a discussion with the Community Resource Center, Family Safety Network, and Mental Health Coalition about resources available to our community. “People Like Us" follows Ryan Collins as he connects with the queer community of Revelstoke, seeking their opinions and stories and relationship with mountain culture to build perspective into what it is like to be queer in a rural setting. After moving to Revelstoke in 2020 to work in the mountain sports industry, Collins felt welcomed, building a strong friend group and work opportunities. Despite this warm reception, he felt something was missing: a connection with people like him. In the film, as Collins actively reaches out to members of the local queer community, he begins to understand the shared queer experience better. In doing so, “People Like Us” celebrates the existence of queer folks in non-urban settings, and show that healthy queer communities can flourish in small towns. All proceeds from this event will support Teton Valley Pride Alliance.
