Every October, hundreds of kids and families walk around a small residential block in Oakland over and over again, in solidarity and gratitude for our neighborhood public school, Peralta Elementary. On each lap, kids may learn a new joke, cast a vote on the most important issues of the day (cookies or ice cream?) and earn fun prizes. It is an incredibly fun celebration of our community, and also a demonstration of the support we must provide to our school, staff and teachers through fundraising.

Reaching our donation goal for the Walkathon will make our students proud, and inspire them with your support. The money we raise will fund basic needs and essential staff that Peralta counts on each year to keep our students happy and thriving. From P.E. class and teachers aides, to direct support for our principal through our attendance specialist and community schools manager, the Walkathon helps pay for vital positions that Oakland Unified does not currently provide.

As costs rise and funding for public education remains uncertain from year to year, we are counting on any support you can provide to fill the gaps, and support truly great public education here in our neighborhood.

The Walkathon is planned and operated entirely by the Peralta Parent Teacher Group (PPTG), a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Donations are tax-deductible.
