About Perfect Pair

Perfect Pair fosters one-on-one, intergenerational connections between older adults and college students. We strive to reinforce a mutual sense of community and purpose for our pairs: a goal that underlies our efforts to combat loneliness and improve overall health and wellbeing. We achieve this by ensuring that our pair connections are personalized: based on shared background and interests. Simultaneously, we encourage pairs to re-engage with their passions by offering individualized and accessible programming. We hope for older adults and students to feel that their life perspective and quality of life have been meaningfully enhanced by their experience in our program.

What is Perfect Pair?

Perfect Pair is a program that creates one-on-one connections between older adults and college students. Student volunteers and senior participants are paired based on similar hobbies and interests. Through shared laughs, conversation, and fun activities, our members will have the opportunity to foster meaningful and long-lasting relationships with their Perfect Pair.

How do we pair students and older adults?

We create perfect pair matches by reading through applications and matching students and residents in assisted living buildings based on mutual interests, shared backgrounds, and similar hobbies. For example, we have a pair that both grew up in NYC, another that both share veteran/military experiences, and one that both studied engineering.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Perfect Pair is recognized as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization by the IRS. Donations made are fully tax-deductible to the extent allowed by U.S. law.

I'm donating from a country outside of the U.S. Is my donation secure? Is my donation tax-deductible?

Your donation is secure, but not eligible for tax deduction outside of the US at this time.

What is a Perfect Pair team and how can I join one?

A Perfect Pair team is a group of 2 or more supporters who have teamed up to fundraise and participate in our efforts. Every fundraiser can set their own personal goal and funds raised on your team member’s pages will contribute to your team page goal. You can join a team by heading to any team page and clicking “Join a Team”. Share your team page with others to invite them to join.

What do I do if I receive cash or check donations?

If you are collecting checks, please have them made out to Perfect Pair, and mail them together by the end of December. It is essential that these are postmarked by December 31st at the latest in order for the donation to be tax deductible for 2022. Checks received in January will count as a 2023 contribution. Make sure you include your full name as you are registered on the campaign site, or your Perfect Pair Team name, if applicable.

If you receive cash donations, you can also mail us a check for the amount of the cash and let us know the campaign page to receive credit, as well as the names & addresses of donors; this will also allow us to send the donor a contribution receipt. In the past some fundraisers have received cash and then just made a credit card contribution online to their pages. We want you to understand that by doing that it does not allow us to get a contribution receipt to the donor, which denies the donor the ability to take a tax deduction.

How does Perfect Pair raise money, and where does the money go?

We run 100% on donations from individuals and organizations. All of our funds go towards bringing individual programming and connection to older adults in assisted living. Some of our expenses that are critical to our program include volunteer transportation costs, activity supplies, community events, and program welcome kits.
