We’re raising $1 million to bring That Awesome Grocery Store (TAGS) into national operation.

Three years of work have gone into developing a different kind of grocery store. Now we’re raising the founding capital to bring the people, systems, and infrastructure into place.

Imagine a premium grocery store where every product has to earn its place. Where organic certification is a starting point, not the final word. Where ingredients, sourcing, manufacturing practices, and product claims are examined with the seriousness they deserve.

Now imagine that same grocery store making exceptional products more accessible, delivering an enjoyable shopping experience, and using the business of selling groceries to help families experiencing financial hardship shop for those same products.

That’s TAGS.

A national online grocery store designed around extraordinary product standards, thoughtful pricing, genuine hospitality, and charitable food access.

Our initial operation is being developed to serve shoppers throughout the continental United States.

Beyond Premium.

THREE YEARS OF WORK. NOW, LET’S OPEN THE DOORS.

For three years, we’ve been developing the business and charitable structures, proprietary product standards, national distribution and fulfillment plans, technology, and shopping experience needed to bring TAGS into operation.

We’ve worked through the financial, regulatory, and operational details required to connect a national grocery business with charitable food access.

Now we’re ready to advance the next phase.

The faster the funding comes in, the faster we can complete the build and announce when TAGS’ doors will swing open.

This is a founding capital campaign designed to establish a grocery operation capable of supporting its ongoing business and charitable commitments through the business itself.

THE $1 MILLION FOUNDING GOAL

$50,000
IGNITION

Our first milestone puts priority development, staffing, and operational preparation into motion.

$600,000
THE BASELINE BUILD

The baseline capital needed to bring together essential staffing, technology, product vetting, fulfillment preparation, and opening infrastructure.

$1,000,000
THE NATIONAL BUILD

Our full founding goal provides a stronger foundation for completing the national operation and supporting its earliest stages of business.

Contributions can be put to work as they arrive. We don’t need to wait until the entire $1 million is raised to advance work that’s ready to begin.

THE 90-DAY COUNTDOWN

And yes, there will be a countdown.

Once funding, staffing, technology, product assortment, and fulfillment readiness support a credible opening date, we’ll announce the official 90-day countdown to TAGS opening its doors.

The countdown does not begin automatically when the first $50,000 is raised. It begins when we’re operationally prepared to announce a credible opening date.

THE FOUNDING DONOR LADDER

EVERY CONTRIBUTION HAS A PLACE IN THIS HISTORY.

Some people give $10. Some give $10,000.

We love them both.

The significance of a contribution isn’t always reflected in the dollar amount. Ten dollars may represent a meaningful sacrifice. For someone else, ten thousand dollars may be comfortably within reach.

What matters to us is that you’ve chosen to participate in making this possible.

Our six founding levels offer different opportunities for recognition, editorial access, and participation in the conversations surrounding the TAGS founding campaign.

Every level includes the benefits of the levels before it.

Eligible publication access is complimentary for 12 months, including applicable archives. Institutional editions are delivered through Substack. A contribution is not a purchased subscription or admission to Club du Pala.

FIRST ENTRY | $1–$79

There’s something special about being there at the beginning.

Your contribution includes our sincere thanks, public institutional communications, major campaign announcements, and an invitation to attend the live Founder Q&A held after the founding fundraising goal is reached.

FEATURED UNDERWRITING OPPORTUNITIES

HAVE A FAVORITE PART OF THE BUILD? HELP MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Some contributors want to support the entire grocery store. Others would love to know they’re helping establish something specific.

These opportunities are part of our $1 million founding goal, not separate fundraising campaigns.

Full or partial underwriting is welcome.

01 | THE TRANSPARENCY TICKER

$100,000 Founding Underwriting Opportunity

Together, we’re feeding the people. And we want you to see it happen.

At TAGS, every single item has charitable impact built into its cost. Every time someone checks out, that purchase adds to our collective charitable contribution total. And on Impact Sundays that contribution is 100% of each product’s markup.

We’re developing a live ticker so you can see that impact as it happens, right down to the moment a cart crosses checkout.

And every week, you’ll be able to see how many new grocery stipends those purchases have created for Feed the People participants.

The underwriting target reflects our technical feasibility and cost research, including phased development, integrations, reliable financial reporting, implementation, and the first year of operation and upkeep.

Full or partial underwriting welcome.

02 | THE TAGS STANDARDS VETTING TEAM

12 Professional Positions

Help us hire the people who decide what belongs on our shelves.

Our standards vetting professionals will examine ingredients, sourcing, manufacturing practices, processing methods, documentation, and the evidence behind product claims for every proposed product, in every department, including home goods.

We’ve spent three years developing proprietary standards. Now we need qualified professionals to apply them across a national catalog.

We’re seeking support for 12 specialized professional positions, with compensation appropriate to the expertise and responsibility involved.

Underwriting may support an individual position for a defined period or contribute to the department’s broader staffing needs.

03 | B CORP CERTIFICATION PATHWAY

$1,000 Founding Underwriting Opportunity

We believe in having our standards examined by somebody other than ourselves.

That Awesome Grocery Store intends to pursue B Corp Certification, administered by B Lab.

Our initial $1,000 underwriting opportunity supports the beginning of that pathway, including assessment, documentation, and preparation of evidence needed for the certification process.

Certification is not guaranteed.

INTERESTED IN UNDERWRITING SOMETHING ELSE?

Technology, staffing, national fulfillment, product research, and the shopping experience all require substantial funding.

If there’s a particular part of the TAGS build that interests you, we’d love to discuss it.

NO BUCKET OF CASH? GOT SKILLS?

WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU.

Not everyone who believes in this work is in a position to make a financial contribution.

Some people have expertise, connections, creative talent, or a few hours they’d love to put toward something meaningful.

We’re especially interested in people with experience in marketing, public relations, media outreach, audience development, fundraising, strategic partnerships, social media, creative production, technology, design, grocery operations, and research.

Perhaps you know someone with the interest and capacity to make a significant philanthropic contribution. An introduction to the right person or organization could make an extraordinary difference.

Even simply spreading the word helps.

We’d love to know what you do, what you’re interested in, and how you’d like to contribute.

FEED THE PEOPLE

NO BOXES. NO LIMITED CHOICES. JUST REAL GROCERY ACCESS.

Through Feed the People Trust, the charitable food-access program working alongside TAGS, participating households will receive:

$300 PER MONTH FOR SIX MONTHS.

That’s $1,800 in grocery stipends per participating household.

Families will use their stipends to shop the same TAGS assortment at cost, choosing groceries that suit their own households.

No separate assortment of inferior products. No prepacked boxes selected by somebody else.

Just the freedom to shop for good food with dignity and choice.

It’s the charitable purpose designed into the grocery business from the beginning.

A NOTE FROM THE FOUNDER

I’ve spent three years developing That Awesome Grocery Store without taking a salary.

I didn’t spend those years doing all of that because I thought the world needed another grocery store with a prettier label.

I wanted a grocery store where people could trust the products, enjoy the experience of shopping, and stop paying unnecessary premiums for quality. And I wanted the economics of that business to help make the same quality available to families who couldn’t otherwise afford it.

What I don’t accept is the idea that exceptional food should be easily accessible only to households that can comfortably afford it.

I don’t believe it has to work that way.

TAGS is what I’ve spent these years doing about it.

Now we’re ready for the people, capital, and operating infrastructure that will bring this work into national operation.

I’d love for you to be part of that.
