John "Jack" Phipps is, without a doubt, one of Camden Catholic's most legendary faculty members. Over the course of his 53-year tenure at CCHS, Mr. Phipps served in many positions on the faculty but none so memorable as the time he spent working with students in the Guidance Office. As a guidance counselor, Mr. Phipps was a trusted a friend to thousands of students who have gone on to speak fondly of their time with him.

The Jack Phipps Memorial Fund

With gratitude for his lifetime of dedication to our school, Camden Catholic is launching the Jack Phipps Memorial Fund to honor his years of love and care for CCHS students. The Fund aims to accomplish a number of goals intended to immortalize Jack Phipps' contributions to our community and to expand guidance and mental health services at Camden Catholic. The Jack Phipps Memorial Fund will;

See the dedication and renaming of the guidance office for Mr. Jack Phipps
Fund a physical upgrade/improvement within the guidance office
Support the acquisition of additional guidance staff specifically aimed at addressing mental health services
Rename the annual guidance scholarship in Jack Phipps' honor.

Student mental health is a growing concern among educators nationally. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services Office of Population Affairs, 49.5% of adolescents (13-18) have suffered from a mental health disorder at some point in their lives.

Reports from the CDC offer that in general, the number of adolescents reporting poor mental health is increasing and that educational institutions can work to thwart these trends by 1) intervening with the establishment of strong bonds between educators and students, and by 2) working with parents to create protective relationships with students to help them grow into healthy adulthood.

Given these statistics, it's clear that Camden Catholic must be prepared to prioritize services for students dealing with mental health issues like anxiety, depression, ADHD, eating disorders, and more. We are thrilled to be able to do so in honor of one of Camden Catholic's greatest advocates for students' wellbeing.
