SRN and Head of the Charles

On Saturday, October 17, the Survivor Rowing Network (SRN) and the Head Of The Charles will host the 3rd Annual HOCR Survivor Row. This year, 11 eights and one coxed quad will take on the iconic 4,702-meter Charles course.

SRN Survivors will also be racing throughout the weekend in other HOCR events.

Ellen Kennelly, Radcliffe alumna, artist, cancer survivor and 10-time HOCR single winner.
Declan Watson, a Multiple Myeloma survivor of Whitemarsh Boat Club will race in the Men's Veterans Single
Saugatuck Survi-FOUR, a new men’s survivor program, will represent SRN in the Men's Veterans 4+.

For many survivors, it will be their first time racing the Charles. Together, they are showing what survivor rowing is all about: getting stronger, finding community and continuing to set new goals.

"At the HOCR Survivor Row, we will see the confluence of teamwork, physical power, community and confidence in our minds’ and bodies’ ability to grow stronger, all flowing into one big beautiful river. What is more healing than that?"

- Anne Carpenter CCRA Survivor Vikings - first time HOCR participant.

Your Support Puts Survivors in Boats

Every dollar raised helps SRN:

Launch new survivor rowing programs in communities around the world
Strengthen existing programs with grants, resources and support
Train and educate coaches working with cancer survivors
Create opportunities for survivors to learn, row, train and compete together
Build a global community where survivors find strength, connection and recovery through rowing

Our mission is simple: put more cancer survivors into boats and on ergs, all around the world.

Why Rowing?

“When people are learning to row, the cancer sits outside the boat for that period of time, and it’s replaced by something new. Once they’re on the water, they’re blown away by the sum of their strength.”
- Holly Metcalf, Founder, Survivor Rowing

Exercise is medicine. Rowing adds something more: teamwork, purpose and a community that understands.
