Nearly 500,000 Americans develop C. diff every year. About 30,000 of them die from it. Most people have never heard of it.

The Peggy Lillis Foundation has spent 16 years changing that. We are the only nonprofit in the United States dedicated exclusively to C. diff education, patient support, and policy advocacy. We built the largest C. diff patient network in the country. We have sent trained advocates to Capitol Hill every year since 2018. Our See C. diff campaign has reached more than 40 million people. We have done all of it on a budget under $500,000 a year.

Now we need your help to do more.

By starting a fundraising page, you bring PLF's mission to your community. And your story, whatever it is, brings it to life.

WHY PEOPLE RAISE FOR PLF

People come to this page from different places. What they share is a connection to C. diff and the conviction that it should not cost this many people this much.

Because I Survived

If C. diff is part of your own story, you already know what most people don't.

You know the recurrences. The isolation. The fear that it could come back. You know what it meant to find someone who understood -- or how hard it was when you couldn't.

That knowledge is the most powerful fundraising tool you have.

When you share your page, you bring C. diff into your community's vocabulary. You explain, in your own words, why a disease most people have never heard of deserves their attention and their support. Your donors give because of you. And every dollar goes toward making sure the next person who gets a C. diff diagnosis has more information, more support, and more options than you did.

Your survival is not the end of the story. Make it the beginning of someone else's.

In Honor of Someone I Love

If someone you love is living with C. diff, you know the weight of it.

The appointments. The recurrences. The times you wished someone had warned your family sooner, or that better resources had been easier to find. You have watched a disease that most people cannot name take something from someone you care about.

Raising in their honor is a way to put that experience to work.

Your fundraising page tells the people in your life what C. diff does to a family. It directs their support toward the organization building the infrastructure that patients and caregivers deserve. And it sends a message to the person you are honoring: what they are going through matters, and you are doing something about it.

Start a page. Raise in their name. Let their fight reach further than they know.

In Memory of Someone I Lost

C. diff kills roughly 30,000 Americans a year. Most of those deaths happen in near silence, in hospitals and nursing homes, among families who were never told how serious this infection could be.

You know what that silence costs.

Raising money in memory of someone you lost turns grief into something that lasts. Your fundraising page carries their name to people who need to hear it. The money you raise supports the education, advocacy, and patient support that could spare another family what yours has endured.

PLF was founded by two brothers who lost their mother to C. diff in 2010. Peggy Lillis was a Brooklyn kindergarten teacher. She was 56 years old. She arrived at the hospital on April 20 and died 36 hours later. Her sons refused to accept that her death would be in vain. That refusal has become an institution.

Your loss can be part of what makes C. diff rare, treatable, and survivable.

How Your Fundraising Helps

Every dollar raised through this campaign supports PLF's core programs:

The Peer Support Network connects C. diff patients and caregivers with trained peer volunteers who have been through it themselves.

See C. diff has reached more than 40 million people with accurate, accessible C. diff education -- a 43-percent year-over-year increase in reach as recently as 2023.

Capitol Hill Lobby Day sends trained patient advocates to Congress every year. It is the only C. diff-specific congressional engagement in the country.

PLF's scientific symposia and CME program advance the clinical knowledge of the professionals treating patients, reaching more than 500 registrants in 2025 alone.

PLF is the only nonprofit in the United States built exclusively around C. diff. Your fundraising goes where no other organization goes.
