Over the past 18 months, the guys in our unit, Alog 99, have given everything. Many of them have logged close to 200 days of reserve duty between advanced training and active service across multiple fronts. Two hundred days away from their families, their jobs, their lives.

Our unit, Avtacha, provides 24/7 security for the base at all entrances and along the perimeter. We sit 50 meters from the Gaza border with constant threat warnings. We are the first line of defense for the base and the surrounding local area.

During that time, one reality kept hitting them hard: the equipment they were issued. Bulletproof vests and helmets dating back to the 1970s and 80s. Gear that was outdated before most of them were born. Protective equipment that directly affects whether they come home in one piece.

On June 1 the unit is heading back to the Gaza border and rotating in and out of operations over the next two to four months. This time, they made a decision as a group. They are raising funds to secure proper, modern protective equipment for the soldiers in the unit. Every shekel goes directly to gear.

These are fathers, husbands, business owners, and professionals who dropped everything to serve. They did it willingly. But they refuse to accept that the men standing next to them on the line are wearing protection that belongs in a museum.
