Story

This is not a festival. Imagine an event where chefs collaborate on one-of-a-kind limited-edition dishes while supporting their community. Pop Off LA will take place on May 16-23 during AAPI Heritage Month and donate a portion of proceeds to non-profit Off Their Plate.

Off Their Plate will then engage struggling Asian restaurants to make meals for AAPI organizations.

Your donations will help OTP pay AAPI-owned restaurants to prep meals for AAPI shelters in their communities. An example is Noodle Girl in Berkeley - founded by a Vietnamese woman who lost her husband to cancer and started a pop-up based on her mother’s pho recipe that she made her husband in his last months. She is paired with the Asian Women’s Shelter in SF, which supports women, children and transgender victims of trafficking and domestic abuse.

Off Their Plate is 100% volunteer run meaning we have no overhead, so 100% of your donations go directly to those in need.

LA Food Gang was founded by Crystal Coser, the President of catering company Bites & Bashes and the former Associate Editor of Eater LA, and Andy Wang, a food writer whose credits include Los Angeles Magazine and Food & Wine. LA Food Gang is on Sundays at 8 pm on Clubhouse, and hosts conversations with LA chefs to share ideas, celebrate triumphs, find solutions, make meaningful connections, and dish on restaurant recommendations.

A recurring topic of LA Food Gang’s virtual gatherings has been amplifying the voices of the AAPI community. In March, LA Food Gang’s Let’s Eat Together virtual fundraiser raised nearly $60,000 for AAPI restaurants and the AAPI community.

Off Their Plate empowers local kitchens led by women and people of color to transform their communities through employment and nutrition. We are an entirely volunteer corps of professionals, engineers, and creatives building solutions for a more equitable food economy.

We're a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization so donations here are tax deductible. Learn more here.

We will do our best to allocate your donation to the city of your choosing if specified. Thank you for your donation!
