Who is Center for Coalfield Justice (CCJ): A 501(c)(3) environmental justice organization serving communities across Washington and Greene Counties in southwestern Pennsylvania for over 30 years.

Our mission: to improve policy and regulations for the oversight of fossil fuel extraction and use; to educate, empower and organize coalfield residents; and to protect public and environmental health.

Our approach is simple: The people who live with daily impacts in their communities are the true experts - and their voices deserve to be heard, respected, and supported.

We combine organizing, communications, legal, and policy strategies to work with residents, not just for them. By investing in people’s skills, leadership, and knowledge, we help communities expand the ways they can pursue justice. This approach ensures that neighbors can advocate effectively for a healthy environment, strong local economy, and the future they deserve.
