Are you feeling weary, overwhelmed, isolated, or discouraged by the state of the world?

Join us as we feast together on down-home seasoned spoken word, spiced with the flavors of revolution, resistance, and collective caretaking — in ways that make our ancestors proud.

Poet, healer, and freedom worker Dr. Jaiya John brings his global rehumanizing mission to Compton for a sacred ceremony of poetry, heart-centered dialogue, and book signing. Jaiya will be reading from his newest book, Wildflowers Praying at Midnight, along with selections from his other published works — and perhaps even fresh, unpublished offerings.

🌿 About Dr. Jaiya John

An ancestral Baba, doctor of psychology, former Howard University professor, and former collegiate basketball player, Jaiya uses the transformative power of poetry and spoken word to help people reconnect with their divine brilliance and capacity for healing.

His gift invites emotional release, reflection, and renewal — helping us breathe again during seasons of reckoning, grief, and uncertainty.

In addition to his newest release, a variety of Dr. Jaiya John’s other published books will be available for purchase at the event.
