Pittsburgh Prison Book Project (PPBP) was born in 2000 as Book ‘Em when founders learned from an incarcerated friend of the nearly non-existent educational opportunities that U.S. prisons afford their prisoners. Not only was the library at their friend’s prison under-stocked, but it was impossible for inmates to request new materials or to receive books from friends and family.

For 25 years, PPBP has been sending books to incarcerated readers across Pennsylvania free of charge, operated by a team volunteers and funded mostly by donations.

We promise a day full of learning, making, and music from local Pittsburgh artists and aligned organizations, along with a raffle of art, gift certificates, and other bookish gear.
