Join Youth OUTright in celebrating Pride 2023! We’re excited to be in community with folks and celebrate the unique beauty of our Queer and Trans family.

That being said, we know that 2023 has been a very challenging year, particularly for Trans young people. With nearly 500 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills introduced across the country, it can be difficult to feel pride right now.

We want to remind folks – Pride is and has always been – a movement.

Queer and Trans folks have a long history of creating and seeking out safe spaces for one another. In the 60s, Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, NY became a mutual aid hub for LGBTQIA+ folks facing discrimination, violence, and homelessness.

In the morning hours of June 26, 1969, the inn was raided by police, a violent act that occupants were unfortunately familiar with. But this time, they’d had enough. Along with many others, Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera started fighting back and soon a riot was underway.

This act of resistance took place for multiple days and had a lasting impact on the community. Since the riot, every June has commemorated this collective action that galvanized the modern LGBTQIA+ rights movement with what we now call Pride.

We are grateful for our Transcestors who ignited the path to keep fighting for our rights today. In the midst of continuing their work, we must never forget to take time to experience gender euphoria, queer joy, and togetherness.
