Walrus is a 501c3 Non Profit Project centered around the saving and upcycling of boats. This organization is designed to encourage marine restoration, honor history, strengthen community, and pay homage to the indigenous peoples of our local lands and waters.

We have an incredible opportunity to bring this mission to life in a whole new way; restoring and reopening a historic shipyard on the Lake Union Ship Canal. This marks a chapter in our mission to rescue, reuse, and reimagine derelict vessels; protecting our waters, honoring maritime history, and creating a new model for sustainable restoration.

Every year abandoned boats pollute the waters of Puget Sound, leaking toxic materials, obstructing navigation, and placing a massive financial burden on the state. Walrus offers an alternative; an innovative nonprofit system for affordable boat removal, environmentally responsible recycling, and creative upcycling of vessel parts and materials.

This is more than cleanup; it’s reclamation with purpose. For three years, Walrus has worked alongside state agencies to design a safe, effective, scalable process. Now, we’re ready to anchor it in place.

With your help, we will fully renovate and equip our new home at Fishermen’s Terminal. These funds will allow us to restore the facility, acquire the equipment needed for boat haul-outs and processing, and create a working yard and fabrication space where salvaged materials become everything from furniture to public art.

This location will also serve as a community hub; a place for education, local events, cultural engagement, and support for Seattle’s fishing families. We envision weekend fish markets, storytelling installations, and dedicated moorage access for working fishers, all rooted in environmental responsibility and maritime tradition.
