The Somerville Museum's mission is to be Somerville’s “mirror” focused not only on the past, but the present and the future of our community. Like the rest of Somerville, the Somerville Museum is one-of-a-kind: a place where you can make unexpected discoveries and take part in Somerville’s history, diversity and creative spirit. The Somerville Museum continues to be recognized for outstanding programming. The Museum received the 2024 and 2022 American Association for State and Local History's Leadership in History Awards for The Remarkable life of Somerville Olympian Phil Reavis and Voices from Somerville’s Communities respectively, as well as the 2022 Mass History Alliance STAR Award for Padres Latinos. Especially in these times, we need spaces where ALL voices can be heard, where we can learn and deepen our understanding of each other, and come together and strengthen our community.

We are your museum!

The museum has been closed to the public while making significant improvements! Yet, being closed has put a strain on our finances, We depend primarily on grant funding for our programming, but there are far fewer grants available for operating and overhead costs that continue to rise, including staffing needs that allow us to serve our community better. Your support makes a huge difference and is an important part of our revenue model.

Please consider a year-end tax-deductible gift in any amount to the Somerville Museum so that we can sustain and build on the many ways in which the museum provides a space for reflection on history and connection with our neighbors.

Restoration of our historically significant Charles Bulfinch staircase
“Welcome to All” Murals at both entrances to the Museum by the artist, Imagine
Expanded member benefits
New exhibitions and special Revolution 250 programming
Annual Holiday Party on December 13th so we can come together to say thank you to all our supporters and celebrate the Somerville Museum community!
