The Story Behind Purple Up Kids Night

At the Mid America Veterans Museum, our mission is simple but powerful: to preserve and share the stories of those who served so future generations understand the true cost of freedom.

Every artifact, every uniform, and every recorded story in our museum represents a life of service. But behind each of those stories is something equally important, a family.

When a service member deploys, their children continue the mission at home. They learn resilience, courage, and patience while someone they love is serving far away.

Purple Up Kids Night at the Museum was created to recognize and support those military children in our community.

During this special evening, families with a deployed loved one are invited to explore the museum together and experience the stories of veterans who served before them. Through those stories, we hope military kids see that they are part of something bigger, a long legacy of service, sacrifice, and strength.

Kids will also have the opportunity to write letters to their deployed parent or loved one. Whether it’s a heartfelt note, a drawing, or a simple message of “I miss you,” these letters become powerful reminders that even across the miles, families remain connected.

The museum will provide everything needed: paper, pencils, markers, crayons, and envelopes, so every child can create a message straight from the heart.

Events like this are part of how we live out our mission. By connecting military families to the stories inside our museum, we help ensure the legacy of service is not only remembered, but also felt, shared, and carried forward by the next generation.
