We fell in love with the people of Ciudadela Sucre—11 neighborhoods dotting the hills of the city of Soacha outside of Bogota, Colombia on our first trip, in 2013, as international volunteers with Habitat for Humanity Colombia. In 2019, Habitat for Humanity International closed its Colombia office. Desiring to continue working alongside our friends in Ciudadela Sucre, we formed our own nonprofit—Building Trust Americas. We are registered in the United States as a nonprofit and have tax exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the US Internal Revenue Code.

In 2020, during the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic, your donations helped us provide food packages to more than 3,000 people in Ciudadela Sucre, and in 2021, we started a scholarship program for adult secondary students and financed the construction of one family home. In 2022, we funded the construction of a long stairway that connects two areas of the same neighborhood along a route that was in very poor condition and crime ridden. In 2023, we funded and helped construct a cancha, an athletic field used by a neighborhood for soccer matches, basketball, and community events. We continued funding the scholarship prgoram for adult secondary students. See the photos of the new cancha below!

This year, we are funding—and helping build—a cancha, a soccer/athletic field enabling the many kids of different ages to exercise formally and informally which will improve health, provide a central gathering place for children and adults alike and help create more cohesive community.

We are also providing scholarships for the tuition and school supplies of ten adult students to help them complete their secondary degrees and thereby improve their opportunities in terms of future professional and personal development. Your continued donations will help us meet our 2023 fundraising goals and stand by the residents of Ciudadela Sucre once again.

This fall, we are excited to return to Ciudadela Sucre! The trip will take place on November 6-13, 2024, and we invite you to join us. We will be building November 13, 14, and 15 and interacting with other nonprofits, touring and enjoying some free time on the other days.
