The Gloucester Writers Center has served Cape Ann for more than a decade. In that time, we have organized countless workshops, classes, and events. Now, we hope to add another reading series to our calendar.

The GROUNDSWELL READER SERIES is intended as an ambitious new venture that will bring nationally recognized, high-profile writers, activists, and thinkers to Gloucester to share their work and their vision with Cape Ann.

As with everything the Gloucester Writers Center does, we have our mission in mind. We will present writers whose work is at the intersection of creative ambition and civic engagement. This is showcased in our first event, a reading featuring the poet, translator, and editor Forrest Gander, and essayist and translator Laura Marris. Both have written powerful works that engage not just with the art of poetry or the essay, but with species collapse, environmental catastrophe, and imagining stronger and more bodily bonds to the natural world.
