Updates

We'll jump right into the updates this week with a huge "thank you" from a group of Ukrainian volunteers currently forming a new unit. Your delivery of tourniquets was very much appreciated.

$2 TACO Tuesday

This week's $2 ticket gets you access to a beaded wall hanging of Patron, the explosives detection canine. (And yes, this time Arcaist and I are correct that it is an actually thing designed to be hung on something) You also get a poppy patch commemorating the fallen Ukrainian defenders and a beautiful challenge coin. Lastly, a pair of AFU socks will keep you warm.

$5 Mix

This week's $5 mix leads off with a signed flag from the 119th, joined by a stretchy t-shirt (size M) from our good friends in the 82nd. To round out the collection, the 65th provided their pre-2024 patch and the 17th Motorized Battalion (57th Brigade) donated their patch.

In closing:

Each week I try to find something to share with you as it relates to Ukraine. Some weeks, like this week, my proverbial well had run dry.

The war grinds on, killing and maiming Ukrainian defenders. It seems like world leaders drag their feet, or, even more contemptibly, actively attempt to twist Ukraine's struggle to their own selfish advantages. The daily deluge of death and destruction becomes an actual weight, crushing down hope.

Then, one of my best friends who lives in Kyiv excitedly told me that she met someone who gave her a collection of books by Paulo Coelho. She was ecstatic that she was able to read one of her favorite authors in Ukrainian. In the middle of a war. She was happy, even though she had no heat in her flat, and only 2-4 hours of electricity per day.

As I learned from her, Coelho wrote, "One is loved because one is loved. No reason is needed for loving"

You, the people that make UFL possible, inspire me. You may not have a reason to love Ukrainians, but you do. Each week I see you all, random strangers from across the globe stepping up to fill the void created by governmental failures and helping. You help people you have never met and will likely never meet. You give of yourself not only financial support, but you give a voice to the Ukrainian defenders that don't have a global reach.

I will say every week what UFL thinks every day - thank you.
