Recovery Nine Months Onward

Nine months ago, wildfires tore through Los Angeles County, devastating entire communities and leaving thousands of our neighbors without homes, treasured belongings, or a clear path forward. In the midst of so much heartbreak and uncertainty, one thing has never wavered: the strength of our community, showing up for one another when it matters most.

Since January, 211 LA has provided short-term housing for over 17,000 families, giving nearly 150,000 people a safe place to land. Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, 211 LA was able to meet urgent needs of wildfire survivors while laying the foundation for long-term recovery and stability.

We remain committed to helping wildfire survivors navigate complex systems, access essential resources, and move toward long-term recovery and stability.

Hearing from Survivors

After connecting impacted Angelenos to immediate relief, 211 LA met with wildfire survivors to provide financial support, in addition to safe spaces to grieve and share their stories with the 211 LA team. These are just some of the residents who had something to say:

And then [my care coordinator] checked on me, calling me or leaving a voicemail, basically every week just to see how things are going. So somebody’s definitely there to check up on me and help me with whatever questions or issues I have that week.”

“[We] need a four or five-bedroom house, but they want six, $7,000 for rent. And that's really out of our budget. So that’s something we've been dealing with, and 2-1-1 has been a big help [with connecting] to Airbnb.”

Hotels got too expensive. But then luckily now it seems, little by little, it's getting there and I think it's all thanks to Yvonne.”

Driving Recovery Through Data

But our recovery efforts are far from over—and our data reflects this. Through Care Coordination, 211 LA continues to assist nearly 4,000 displaced households navigating recovery. Using 211 LA’s Wildfire Care Coordination Program Data Dashboard, we are helping to drive smarter and faster recovery for wildfire survivors.

Care coordination client data shows that 77% of survivors cite housing access as their top challenge, while 40% cite insufficient income or financial resources as a barrier to recovery. Among the most requested services for households are emergency/immediate relief (26.5%), housing and shelter (25.7%), food (15.1%), and clothing/household goods (8.7%)

For more than 40 years, 211 LA has been Los Angeles County’s trusted resource for health and human services, and a disaster hotline. Residents can call 2-1-1 for real-time disaster updates and assistance, 24/7.
