A New Beginning: Jayla's Story

Jayla is 9 years old. She’s bright, curious, and dreams of becoming a graphic designer someday. But last summer, instead of looking forward to the new school year, Jayla was anxious.

Her mother had recently been laid off from her job, and with rent, food, and utilities already stretching the budget, school supplies simply weren’t an option. No new backpack. No crayons. No notebooks.

When Jayla asked her mom how they were going to get the things she needed for school, her mom smiled—but there were tears in her eyes. “I don’t know yet, baby,” she said.

That’s where you came in.

Because someone donated.
Because someone volunteered.
Because someone believed that no child should ever start school feeling behind before they even begin.

Jayla and her mom came to the Back to School Bash last year in Cobb County with over 3,000 people in attendance. They were greeted with warm smiles, welcoming volunteers, and booths filled with free supplies, creative activities, and helpful resources.

Jayla walked away with a backpack full of supplies and a heart full of hope. She started the school year with confidence, just like every child deserves.
