ADSL Deficiency is a complex genetic disorder that causes progressive damage to the brain. In some children, it may look similar to autism or developmental delay. In its most severe forms, it can lead to devastating seizures, loss of developmental skills, and increasing difficulty with basic functions such as eating, moving, and breathing. Families living with ADSL Deficiency face challenges that no child or parent should have to endure. And this is why Rare Birds families are fundraising for a cure.

With the generous support of donors like you, the first round of the Rare Birds "Research Accelerator Grant" in the amount of $40,000 has been awarded to Dr. Xin Chen of University of Texas Southwestern. THANK YOU for supporting Rare Birds Rising!

Dr. Chen is applying for an NIH grant to further fund this important work and we are deeply hopeful that the grant reviewers will see merit in supporting his work, and the families behind it. We continue towards our total goal of $250,000 to bridge potential funding gaps in his work, and to support the work of other research teams around the globe who are all working towards the same goal: a gene therapy cure for ADSL Deficiency.
