Literacy levels across the U.S. have dropped significantly over the years. One out of every 4 children is growing up unable to read. This is why PPGJLI is committed to creating new pipelines to success by improving literacy rates and inspiring the next generation of leaders.

We provide youth with positive messaging and relatable characters both of which have been shown to increase literacy, address the systemic inequities associated with illiteracy, and ignite leadership potential.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we have been able to donate over 25,000 diverse books to children, inspire over 6,000 children with visits to schools, and provide virtual readings to over 30,000 participants.

This offers the opportunity to create both mirrors and windows. “Mirrors” where children of color see themselves positively represented on the pages of a book. There is a sense of urgency for action when you are more likely to see a book with a black dog or black bear on the cover than a book with a Black girl or Black boy. And "windows” where all children can embrace the rich multicultural tapestry of our world.

Every $10 provides one child with a diverse book to call their own and inspires a joy for reading in their life. And thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor all gifts will be matched dollar-to-dollar, up to $20,000 this year.

$25 Donation: Supplies a child with two diverse books and an activity book, setting them up for success and stimulating their creativity.
$50 Donation: Funds five children with a diverse book each, giving them the support they need to excel academically.
$100 Donation: Provides ten children with a diverse book through our summer reading program, keeping their minds engaged and curious during the break.
$250 Donation: Supports an entire classroom with a set of culturally diverse books, promoting inclusivity and understanding among students.
$500 Donation: Equips two classrooms with sets of culturally diverse books, doubling the impact and reaching more children.
$1,000 Donation: Provides four classrooms with sets of culturally diverse books, enriching the learning environment for many young readers.
$2,500 Donation: Funds a school-wide literacy event, inspiring hundreds of children to become avid readers and lifelong learners.
$5,000 Donation: Sponsors our monthly community event, "Leaders are Readers," bringing together children, parents, and educators to celebrate the joy of reading and leadership.
