Shirley Montoya's Story
I’m fundraising to fight because I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to feel at home in their body.
The organization I’m partnering with, Rebels for a Cause, is working to close the gap in access to health and wellness. That mission deeply resonates with me because I believe wellness should not be determined by your income, where you live, or the resources available to you.
I own a holistic wellness studio in Humboldt Park, a community that has historically not always had access to the same resources and opportunities as other parts of Chicago. My work is rooted in the belief that caring for our bodies should be something everyone can access, not a privilege reserved for those who can afford it or happen to live in the right place.
Growing up, I was fortunate to have access to certain spaces, programs, and parks that shaped my relationship with movement and my body. Those experiences taught me how powerful it can be to have places where you can move, play, explore, and learn how to care for yourself. I believe everyone deserves that opportunity.
My work today is centered around holistic health because our bodies are not separate from our emotional, mental, and spiritual lives. I want people to have the tools, resources, and support to understand their bodies, care for them, and feel connected to themselves throughout every stage of life.
So for me, this fight is about more than getting into a boxing ring.
I’m asking my community to help me raise $4,000 so I can step into that ring with a purpose. I’m fighting to support greater access to health and wellness, and to stand behind the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to move, heal, grow, and truly feel at home in their body.
I’m excited to challenge myself physically, but even more excited to make that challenge mean something beyond me.
If you believe in accessible wellness and want to support this mission, I would be incredibly grateful to have you in my corner.
