Important Details for Your Spirit Rock Reservation

What is painted on the rock must be in good taste and may not contain any foul language, discriminatory, religious, and/or political statements/symbols. Profanity and ovscenities are not permitted. Designs should have a caring, loving, or encouraging message. The rock will run on the honor system, with the expectation that everyone will respect these guidelines.

Spirit Rock Rules & Guidelines:

● Sign-ups are in 24 hour periods from 3:30pm to 3:30pm. For example, if you sign up for Thursday, September 15th you may paing the rock after 3:30pm on Wednesday, September 14th.

● ONLY the rock can be painted. Paint the front side facing the driveway. ONE SIDE ONLY! Please do not paint the backside of the rock. Painting on sidewalks, lamp posts or buildings is prohibited.

● Families must furnish their own labor, paint. and supplies. Please take care not to damage the surrounding area, and pick up all trash after painting. Please be kind to our environment and recycle your empty cans.

● The family painting the rock assumes liability for any individual or member of the group who may be injured or who may incur damage to clothing or other personal property.

Reservation Change & Refund Policy:

To ensure fairness and help us manage the reservation schedule, all date changes or cancellations must be requested within 24 hours of booking to receive a refund or reschedule at no cost.

After 24 hours, reservations are considered final, and no refunds or date changes will be issued.

No refunds will be issued in the case of bad weather. However, if the next day is available, you can paint the rock then. If wet, the rock can be towel-dried before painting, and the paint will adhere even in the rain and/or snow.

Spirit Rock Painting and Design Tips

● The best paint to use is spray paint. Premium spray paint works best (Rustoleum, etc.) vs. a generic store brand. You will probably need 2-3 cans for a good base coat and additional paint for your design. The quantity needed will depend upon the color you are using, the color already painted on the rock, and weather conditions. Remember, latex paint or paint that is rolled on will take longer to dry.

● Once you have the base coat done, use chalk to sketch out your design. Try to do large shapes so that it’s easy to see from the road and so that you can use spray paint for most of it.

● Spray paint your large areas. If you mess up, use your base coat color to fix the mistake.

● For more detailed areas, use a can/tube of paint and a paintbrush. While outdoor latex is best, regular artists' acrylic seems to work well too (even in rain).

● Make sure to bring paper towels to wipe any drips

● Bring a cup of water if you are using a paintbrush.

● Wearing rubber gloves will help keep your hands clean.
