On May 5th, the community at Woodbine UMC was devasted to learn that a vandal broke all the windows of the courtyard at Woodbine UMC and trampled a new garden built by children. Volunteers already cleaned up the broken glass - filling nearly one dozen trash cans with broken glass. But now the real work begins: rebuilding the space.

For years, Woodbine UMC has opened its doors far beyond Sunday worship. This building has become a home for community groups, mutual aid projects, advocacy organizations, neighborhood events, bike rides, meals, meetings, bench builds, and celebrations. Groups like Bike Fun, Cosecha Community Development, Voces de Nashville, Bikes & Burritos, Grow to Learn, and many others have used this space to build connection and serve Nashville.

The insurance deductible alone is $10,000, and the full cost of repairs and added security improvements will be even higher. We are setting a goal of $20,000 to help restore the building and strengthen its future as a place of welcome, gathering, organizing, and care.

We know that the community building work of Woodbine UMC will not end because of this set back, but now is the time for us to step up and support the place that has served as home to so many in South Nashville.
